UPCOMING EVENTS & ACTION ITEMS
Registration and Call for Abstracts for the 2015 Gulf of Mexico Oil Spill and Ecosystem Science Conference are now open! The goal of the 2015 conference is to highlight oil spill and ecosystem science research results with a focus on the five years since the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. This year’s conference will seek to answer the questions “What have we learned, what does it mean and how can it be used?” with an emphasis on the impact of the research and application of published research findings. The deadline to submit an abstract is October 3, 2014. Click here for more information or to submit an Abstract
Y3Q3 activity and financial reports are due October 10, 2014
FOR STUDENTS AND POST-DOCS
Mentoring of students and post-docs is an integral part of the educational mission of Deep-C and our partner institutions. The two primary features of Deep-C's mentoring plan for students and post-docs are (1) professional development and (2) career development. The first helps the students and post-docs to become productive and independent researchers. The second provides guidance and resources for identifying and achieving the next career milestone. Below are a few important resources for Deep-C students and post-docs.

Deep-C has developed a Cruise Workbook to streamline and standardize cruise planning, recording metadata, and tracking samples to the responsible PI. Chief scientists are encouraged to use this workbook on Deep-C research cruises. Other GoMRI consortium are welcome to use/adapt the template as well.

ADMINISTRATIVE ITEMS
Deep-C/GoMRI Attribution Statements for Deep-C supported presentations and publications
Please acknowledge your participation in the Deep-C Consortium and include the Consortium logo whenever appropriate (at right). Also, in publications or presentations of research results from data generated in connection with research conducted under the Deep-C grant (#SA 12-12, GoMRI-008), one of the following attribution statements should be included as applicable:
-
"This research was made possible by a grant from BP/The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to the Deep-C Consortium" - or- "This research was made possible in part by a grant from BP/The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to the Deep-C Consortium, and in part by [list other sources]."
For education/outreach purposes, please include an attribution statement such as the following: "This program was made possible by a grant from BP/The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to the Deep-C Consortium" - or- "This research was made possible in part by a grant from BP/The Gulf of Mexico Research Initiative to the Deep-C Consortium, and in part by [list other sources]."

DATA SUBMISSION
Deep-C scientists that are either collecting original field samples, analyzing these observations, or creating data/model products are required to submit their data files to the Deep-C data center. Details on the types of data files we will accept please see our data policy. The Deep-C data center is organizing data and products around a series of activities which include the following:
- Cruise
- Mooring
- Drifter/Float
- Shore Expedition
- Aircraft
- Satellite
- Laboratory
- Model
Within each activity there can be one or more components that we consider events. For example, cruise events include CTDs, sediment grabs, coring, long-line sets, etc. Each event can include one or more sampling actions that typically result in data files, photographs, etc. that will be submitted to the data center.
Information requested to be submitted to the data center includes activity, event, and sample level metadata and the data, image, or document files (and their related file metadata) that result from each activity.
For more information visit the Data Center web pages or contact Shawn Smith, Data Center Coordinator.
Deep-C was a four-year, interdisciplinary study of deep sea to coast connectivity in the northeastern Gulf of Mexico.Deep-C is no longer an active research project. The information on this website is for historical reference purposes only.
